Undine Falls in Yellowstone National Park (pronounced Un-deen) is a beautiful three-tiered waterfall on the east side of Mammoth Hot Springs. This is in the North-West corner of the park. It is easy to get to and accessible for everyone to see.
This is just one of the amazing waterfalls in Yellowstone National Park. Take the time to stop and enjoy them all. Some of them are really easy to get to (like this one) and others are at the end of hikes.
You can see our Yellowstone National Park in 3-Days Itinerary where we suggest other attractions to see while you are in this area. This is part of day 2 (but you can do the days in any order).
There is a fun overlook where you can enjoy the falls. The three tiers are stunning and I love taking in everything around them as well. Yellowstone National Park is such a beautiful place to visit. There are so many unique things all within a few miles of each other.
Being able to take my family there and experience it together, seeing all of the natural wonders and making fun memories is so important. It doesn’t matter if you have been there before or not, make plans to go and experience it all (again).
This is one of our favorite places that we have visited yet! There really is so much to see and do here that you will be able to go again and again without getting bored.
About Undine Falls in Yellowstone National Park
Lava Creek (the name of the creek that feeds the falls) spills over the cliff face of a basalt lava flow that was emplaced about 700,000 years ago. Undine falls is approximately 60 feet in height, descending in three plunges.
Originally called “East Gardner Falls,” “Cascade Falls of the East Gardiner,” or “Gardiner River Falls,” Undine received its present name in 1885 from geologist Arnold Hague. Undine was named for wise, usually female water spirits from German mythology who lived around waterfalls and who could gain souls by marrying mortal men.
