Our family of six took a two week road trip from Utah to Southern California and back again. We want to share our journey with you and what we learned. To read about all of the adventures we had on our California Spring Break trip, click here.
A crucial part of our trip was visiting Disneyland. The kids were all excited about Sea World, LEGOLAND, and Universal Studios, but Disneyland was the highest on their list. That being said we decided to do a four-day pass at Disneyland and wanted a nice place to stay while we played there. We look at the hotels close to Disneyland and they were all so expensive for our family of six – and the ones that weren’t too expensive were just a little to scary unsafe for my taste with my kids. So we expanded our search and about 10 miles out we found the Residence Inn in Tustin. It was about a 12-15 minute drive each way – but it was well worth it for the quality of the accommodations that we had on our visit there. Parking for Disneyland was only $16/day for us and there was a free shuttle to and from the park. It worked out well and was less expensive and WAY nicer than comparable accommodations close to the park.
The Hotel is located right off the freeway so it was very easy to get to. The outside is very nice and there is lots of parking (for free). There is other entrances, but you have to have a key to get into them at any time. This makes it a lot safer. I loved that they offered carts for your luggage so that we didn’t have to make 10 trips (lol, no joke). We were able to park close to the back door, and load the cart and go up the elevator and to our room. The desk clerk was amazing checking us in. She was so friendly and very helpful, making us feel at right at home from the moment we walked in.
The room was amazing! I can’t believe how much room there was in the Suite. Upon entering, you are greeted by the kitchen and living room space. It is beautiful and the layout is great. Our family of 6 did not feel cramped or uncomfortable. There was plenty of space for all of us. The kitchen is a full kitchen with deep sinks, stove, oven, dishwasher, full size fridge (with ice maker) and lots of cabinet space (where we kept all our food). I loved how tall the table was and the chairs were high also and padded and comfy. Perfect for meals, games, or even working. The lighting was great! I loved all of the overhead lights as well as lamps available. There was a phone in each room, and we were able to take advantage of the complimentary wireless access. There was also a place for a wired connection if you wanted to use that. I LOVED the huge windows in each room, giving lots of natural lighting as well.
The Bathrooms were so nice – very big and roomy. There were two rooms – one with a large king bed and it’s own bathroom that had a nice big shower, vanity, etc. And then there was the room with the two queen beds, and it had an attached bathroom that was also very roomy with a large tub/shower and big vanity. Everything was very clean and I really liked how it was laid out. There were travel size items of Shampoo, Conditioner, and soap in each bathroom as well. The maid service was fabulous. They did put the dirty dishes we left in the sink into the dishwasher and started it, cleaned up the bathrooms, and made the beds. One thing I loved about how they made the beds in the kids’ room was how they made them and then put their stuffed animals and blankets out so cute for them to find when we got back each night. The kids loved it too. There is also room service if you want to use it.
The beds were very comfortable with plush bedding and lots of pillows (I love pillows. There was a box that controlled the heating and air conditioning so it made it easy to adjust it. One thing I noticed and loved was the power station on the desk. We had several electronics that needed charging or to be plugged in and it was nice to have so many outlets. There large flat panel TV’s in each of the bedrooms as well as in the living room. The couch in the living room also is a sofabed. The kitchen is stocked with all of the cooking materials (pots, pans, silverware, dishes, cooking utensils, etc) and there is even a grocery shopping service. I loved the large closets in each of the bedrooms and the dressers (that we used since we were there for so long). It was nice to unpack and feel like we were home.
The Hotel has so much to offer. There is a huge dinning area where they offer a free full breakfast every morning. They also have free coffee and hot chocolate 24 hours a day. Just outside the lobby there is a large firepit with lots of comfortable seating all around. In that same area there is a large grill that is open to any one to use. There is a large swimming pool and hot tub that has tables, chairs, and lounge chairs all around it. We had so much fun. Our first day there we drove down to Laguna beach for a few hours. That was so much fun. (more details on that to come later). When we got back from the beach, we took some hotdogs and a steak (along with the other necessities) down to the patio and we had a bbq. It was fabulous. The grill worked great and we enjoyed sitting around the firepit while the food was cooking. After we ate, the three older kids and my hubby all went swimming for a while. The water was nice and they had fun in that, and then they rested in the hot tub for a bit. My 2 year old and I sat by the fire pit and played games on our kindle as she didn’t want to get in the water, lol.
We stayed there for four nights. So we experienced the breakfast four different times. Each morning there was the usual fresh fruit, cold cereal, muffins, bagels, toast, etc. In addition there was also yogurt, hot cereal, and waffles. There was also eggs, potatoes and meat, all differently prepare each day. It was fabulous and there was also juice and milk as well as hot chocolate and coffee. On Wednesday night they had a huge bbq with burgers and hot dogs. Everything was provided. There was soda and an open bar. There was also chips, salads, and all of the “fixens” for the burgers and dogs. It was so good and such a fun experience. The staff is very friendly and they were helpful whenever we needed anything, they took care of it right away.
Overall it is an amazing place to stay and I would recommend it to everyone. Wither you are just driving through, or there for Disneyland (or other fun activities), it is the perfect place to stay for families and individuals the same. The Residence Inn Tustin Orange County is where we will return to any time we are in the area. It is a beautiful place to stay with lots of amenities. My favorite things about it were how big the rooms were, the large TV’s in each room, the patio area with bbq and firepit, and the food. Having free parking was very nice as well. The parking lots were well light and safe. We were outside and several different times of the night and day and never felt worried.

You certainly saved a bundle of money between the lower cost of the room and being able to cook your own food! Good job! lus you were close enough to Disneyland that it was no trouble getting there.

It looks like you had a great time and you stayed at a nice place. We’re a family of 7, and I believe that those rooms are generous enough to accommodate all of us.

Sounds like a wonderful place to stay. Only once have we ever got a suite with our two children and honestly for being comfortable, I would pay the extra money just so no one felt cramped. It looks like you guys had plenty of room and plenty of amenities!

So nice that you all had room to move around in there. We traveled as a six when I was young and it was sometimes pretty miserable! RI looks like the way to go.
