Taking my kids on adventures is such an important thing to me. I want them to grow up exploring the world around them. By exposing them to as much as possible, I am hoping they develop that deep love of travel and adventure that I have. Playalinda Beach was one of those places!
We have been to a lot of places together as a family. We have traveled to California, Utah, Florida, Arizona, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and more! Today I want to share more about our trip to Florida. We did so many amazing things while we were there – but one of their favorites was going to the beach.
We were staying in Orlando – so it was a bit of a drive to get to the ocean, but we made it. We decided on Playalinda beach after a lot of research. We wanted something that was close to Cape Canaveral but without the crowds. We were still able to see the space station but the beach was fairly open, and we had a great time exploring the sand and water.
Keep in mind that we were at maybe like beach 4 or 5. There are 13 beaches here – and the further down you go, we were told, it becomes clothing optional – so watch for that. 13 for sure, and 11 and 12. That is why we stayed closer to the front. We didn’t run into any problems where we were.
There is a nice parking lot, with a bathroom. And a boardwalk that you cross to get over to the beach. You can’t see the ocean from the parking lot because of the big sand dunes.
Playalinda Beach is a great beach for families
The water is warm (we went in August) and had a great time gathering shells and saying hi to the crabs that came out here and there. Take a lunch, set out a blanket and really soak it up and enjoy it!
If you are traveling to the beach you will need to make sure that you have money for the tolls – I believe it was $5 or $6 in tolls EACH way. And you will need a National Parks Pass or to pay the $ 10 day-use fee for the beach. It is a National Seashore and part of the Cape Canaveral Sea Shore.
Beautiful views, warm water and lots of sea shells
The beaches close promptly at 6:00 pm so be sure you are in your car and on your way by that time. We didn’t realize it and the park ranger had to wait for us to get our stuff in the car and head out.
Overall we had a great time! This is a fun place to come and take your family. Keep in mind there are no showers. If you want to take dry clothing you can change in the restroom. You will want to spend a while here, so plan on the early closure and head out earlier in the day.
Have you been here before? What did you think?
