Lodgepole Campground (in Naches, WA) is located about 8 miles east of Mt. Rainier National Park. We came from Utah and stayed the night here before heading out to explore Mt. Rainier National Park for the day. There are about 3 miles of mountains with switchbacks that you have to drive through to get down into the park, but it is really beautiful.
Lodgepole Campground
The campground is located in a huge forest, close to the American River. We were actually able to walk down to the river from our campsite. It is really beautiful. The campground is fairly big, but it fills up quickly in the summer so I would highly recommend making a reservation if you are planning on staying there.
This will also ensure that you get a camping spot the size you need for your equipment (like trailer or tent, etc). They have pull-through spots as well which was really nice since we didn’t want to unhook the trailer. There are no hookups at the Lodgepole campground. They do have restrooms. We also had a nice picnic table and firepit on our site. Each site is well maintained.
Because of all the trees, you don’t feel like you are squished together with your fellow campers. The sites are a fair distance apart which was nice. And each site is a good size. Because this was just a stop through on our way from Utah over to the Mt. Rainier National Park, we didn’t spend long here. I would have enjoyed another night or two. It was very quiet, and I loved listening to the river running.
Over the coming weeks, follow our adventures as we share our two-week road trip through Washington, and down the coast on the 101 into California!
