Hug Point State Recreation Site Oregon

One of the best beaches we stopped at in Oregon was Hug Point State Recreation Area. We spent at least two hours here, maybe more.

After we left Seaside, OR, we stopped at Cannon Beach for a picture of Haystack Rock, then headed down to Hug Point. Our goal for the day was to get to Cape Lookout State Park. We also stopped at The Port of Garibaldi, the Tillamook Creamery, Cape Meares (Octopus Tree), and Netarts Bay.

At Hug Point, the parking is a little tricky. It is on an incline, and it’s not wide enough for a truck and trailer to drive down into and then turn around. To top it all off, it is right off the main Highway 101, which is a little busy. What we did, was pull forward and then backed the truck/trailer down into the parking lot and along the side. We tried to take up as little spots as possible.

We were there mid-July and got there about noon. The weather was great and we had so much fun. The waves, beach, caves, waterfall, and rocks combined to make it a very memorable experience. There were also crabs, jellyfish, and other things so be sure to wear water sandals/shoes to keep your feet protected.

There are bathrooms here, but they are way up in the parking lot. It is a bit of a walk to get there – so go before you head down. We, of course, had to go back up just because…4 kids, lol.

Be sure to wear sunscreen and even hats and sunglasses are great. If you have littles, you will probably want to bring some towels to dry them off, as they may feel cold.

On the way to Hug Point State Recreation Site, we stopped at a great overlook where we could see Cannon Beach and Haystack rock. If you are coming from the North – be sure to stop here on your way down.

We also stopped at the Devil’s Punchbowl which is very cool. The parking is a mess and the area isn’t really set up for a lot of heavy traffic – but if you get a chance to stop here – it is a unique sight to see.
