Another fun place we visited when we were in Kanab was the Hidden Lake Recreation Site. This was a fun side trip after visiting the Sand Caves and we had a lot of fun here. The Hidden Lake Kanab, Utah is really incredible.
It is a small water filled cave that you can see under the red sandstone cliffs. You can get some really incredible pictures here. The sandstone cliffs and the opening to the lake are beautiful. If you want to see the lake at all, you will need a very bright light. It is completely under the mountain.
Somethings to note if you are thinking about going out here:
- 4×4 vehicle is recommended. The road is pretty rough. We took our truck and didn’t have a problem.
- Don’t try going on the road if it’s wet or their is a chance of rain.
- There is a picnic area if you want to take food and eat. Be sure to clean up and take out what you take in.
- There are no bathrooms, so plan accordingly
Here is a map of how to get there. On Google Maps it is listed as Underground Lake.
Overall we all loved stopping here and exploring the area. My kids loved climbing up the sandhills to the small ledges on the mountain. This is a great place to take some really unique photos.
Be sure to soak up the views on the way there and back. So many beautiful scenic landscapes and even a couple of hoodoos along the way.
If you are looking for some more fun things to do in the Kanab area, then be sure to visit the Sand Caves, Toadstool Hoodoos, and the Nautilus. This is also close to Zion National Park so you can visit there too!
