I have always been a Mazda fan. From the “Zoom Zoom” to the comfort and features you know that you are getting a great car. I recently had the opportunity to test drive the new 2016 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring with FWD and I was very impressed. It seats 5 comfortably, with a nice size trunk space. You can put the cover in the back down and have an open area, as well as the back seats and have a nice area for everything from groceries to a pet carrier. It handles very well thanks to the smart traction technology , especially in the weather (as you can see we were driving in the snow and rain) and I felt safe and in control the whole time. “Active Torque Split All-Wheel Drive can instantly adjust power between the front and rear axles to take advantage of available traction and help you stay in control. And thanks to SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY, there’s little burden on your fuel economy.” The 2016 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring set the bar for it’s class.
The controls on the steering wheel as well as the control for the radio/navigation console were very user friendly. There are some knobs and buttons (see video review) that you use to control the radio and navigation – they are in the middle console by the gear shift – and it is so nice and convenient. As you can expect it is packed with safety features, and as a mom of four this is very important to me.
I love the SMART BRAKE SUPPORT feature. Smart Brake Support helps minimize or possibly prevent frontal collisions when driving at speeds over approximately 10 mph. The system automatically applies the brakes if it determines that a collision with an obstruction ahead is unavoidable. Everyone gets disctracted once in a while – and this is a great way to help keep you and your family more safe on the road. I also think that the ADAPTIVE FRONT-LIGHTING SYSTEM (AFS) is a great addition as well. We do a lot of night driving – especially in canyons and narrows – and the Adaptive Front-lighting System turns the headlight beams to improve visibility around corners using input from the vehicle’s speed and steering angle. This helps a lot when you worry about deer and other animals on the road.

It also has Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert which is great for driving in the city and especially on busy freeways. It helps keep us safe with alerts when we want to change lanes, back up or even when we drift out of our lane.
Overall it gets better gas mileage than any other Crossover in its class and The CX-5 comfortably seats five plus your gear with more rear legroom, passenger volume and cargo volume than Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson. The 2016 CX-5 was named a 2015 Top Safety Pick Plus by the IIHS when equipped with available Smart City Brake Support. If you haven’t seen or driven the 2016 Mazda CX-5 – you need to do it. It is a great car.
