Our family loves to travel. With 4 kids that isn’t always easy, but we always try to make it fun and entertaining. We have a DVD player in our car that keeps their attention for a while, and when that gets old, we have games, books, and songs. Since we have a new car, we don’t let out kids eat in it, so we have to plan stops where we can eat and stretch. It also is a great way for them to expend energy and maybe even, if we are really lucky, get tired enough to sleep. Of course for them to have a good trip, we have to make sure they are comfortable. Even with a favorite pillow and blanket it doesn’t mean much if they are uncomfortable in their Car Seat. That is why I love Safety 1st. They make great, safe, and durable chairs that are very comfortable.
We have been able to test out the Summit® Deluxe High Back Booster Car Seat by Safety 1st and I am in love. Not only does it keep my 3 year old contained (because of the amazing 5 point harness system) but it also keeps her comfortable. It has a 4-position QuickFit™ headrest that lets me make adjustments without rethreading the seat belt. I also love that the arm rests go up and down. It makes it so much easier to get her out of her seat. One of my favorite features is the recline button. It has 3 recline settings so that you can make them as comfortable as possible.
More features of the car seat are:
- Forward-facing: 22-40 pounds
- Belt-positioning booster: 40-100 pounds
- 4-position QuickFit™ headrest adjusts with harness for a better fit, no rethreading!
- Side Impact Protection
- 5-position shoulder belt guides on each side
- 5-point harness system with Center Front Adjust
- Pivoting armrests
- Convenient cup holder
- 3-position recline for the best fit
- Airplane ready
- Latch equipped for forward-facing mode
- Meets or exceeds Federal and ASTM Safety Standards
If you are taking a trip with kids, you want to be prepared. Here are my 10 tips for traveling with kids
- Have water bottles for each kid
- Have snacks and treats (either to eat on the way or during stops).
- Take books (picture find, puzzle books, and activity pads are great for keeping attention).
- Make (or buy) a CD with all of your kids favorite songs. Our an Audio Book for older kids.
- Take coloring books and pages and small baggies of crayons with clipboards.
- Use a cookie sheet as a tray for your kids to color on or play with magnets.
- Make sure they are in the correct car seats and buckled up, then let them have a blanket, pillow (if you have room), and favorite stuffed animal or doll.
- Know the road (do some research online) and point out landmarks and fun things to see along the way.
- Talk about what your trip is going to include once you reach your destination.
- Know where the sun is going to be, and cover the Window before leaving. (My kids flip when the sun is in their eyes).
The biggest thing to traveling with kids is just to be prepared.
We received a car seat in order to do this review. This did not affect our opinions and they are 100% our own.
