This last summer my husband and I went with some other family and friends on a hike to Stewart Falls (outside of Provo by Sundance, Utah). It is a 4 mile out and back trail that is great for kids, dogs and even those who aren’t in great shape (like myself). We left about 5 pm to start the hike and ended up coming back in the dark. Even with the moonlight, some of the trail was covered with thick trees and so it was pitch black. If you plan on going later in the day, take a flashlight or you won’t be able to navigate your way out unharmed. I also recommend a light jacket at the mountain air can get cool at night, even in summer.
You will want to start at the Aspen Grove trail along the Alpine Loop Road. There is a small fee to get in and parking can be slim during the day since it gets busy. Getting to the Waterfall took me and my husband about 1 hr. It is up and down with more up than down on the way in – so be prepared with water and some snacks to eat at the end when you get the Waterfall. We packed in sandwiches and food and sat down and had a mini picnic. It was a lot of fun. Stewart Falls is a 200 foot waterfall that is simply breathtaking. If you are looking for a fun family activity to do, then I can’t recommend Stewart Falls enough. Everyone will love seeing the falls and spending time at one of the most scenic, photogenic waterfalls in Northern Utah.
A thing to note is that I didn’t get cell phone service for most of the hike, but once we got up there I had a pretty good signal.
Essentials to pack:
- Good Shoes
- Extra socks
- Light Jacket
- Flashlight
- Water
- Emergency Whistle
- Snacks/Food
- Camera
- Towel
- Tissues

Oh wow! It looks like you had an amazing adventure. I’m a runner, but definitely plan to add in more hiking this year, especially since I live in an area where there are tons of trails!

Such incredible scenery and great tips. I went hiking last weekend and after stepping into mud well past my ankles, I was wishing I had brought along an extra pair of socks.

There are so many things to do in Utah! Now, I will need to add Steward Falls to my list of places to visit when in town. Good to know about the cell reception!

How pretty. It looks like it was definitely worth the hike. Utah looks like such a gorgeous state.

Great tips for the hike! I also wonder what is the view during different seasons. If it rains more maybe the waterfall will even look mightier.
