After leaking Cape Lookout State Park, we headed down to the Devil’s Lake State Recreation Area. We wanted to stop at Cape Kiwanda but woke up too late. We spent some time exploring the Cape Lookout beach – which is beautiful.
Devil’s Lake State Recreation Area
The first thing I need to say about the Devil’s Lake Area is that there isn’t a lot of parking, especially for big rigs like we had. So you will want to get there early if you want a spot. They fill up fast. The lake is at the bottom of a BIG hill so walking in and out would be a pain (especially if you are carrying equipment like kayaks or fishing gear). Parking is free and so is the use of the area.
There is a great dock with a loading ramp. We were able to put our kayaks in by the loading dock and there was an area (you can see in the picture below) that was completely “fenced” off from the lake where the younger kids could play in the water and on the sandy beach.
We were there in July. The weather was beautiful and thankfully warm. We did wear our water shoes because I was worried about fish hooks. There is a lot of fishing from the docks.
There is also a campground nearby that you can stay in. Learn more about Devil’s Lake State Recreation Area here.
